Cocktails for a Crowd (Dana's Texas Fire Water)

I hosted the Memorial Day cocktail hour  at the lake this weekend.

It was a packed resort and I was wracking my brain trying to figure out what fun drink I could serve that would be yummy and easy to make for a huge (200+ ppl) crowd.

I suddenly remembered a drink I kinda accidentally created years ago wile I was a bartender, catering a huge summer beach party.
It is Summery, It is YUMMY!, It is easy, it makes a TON!

It was dubbed "Dana's Texas Fire Water" by the folks I first served it to.

The Memorial Day Bash was a huge success and everyone LOVED the drinks!
I promised to post the recipe here, so they could all make it for their friends.
You can make it too!
Here we go!

Dana's Texas Fever Water
Makes 5 gallons

1 ¾ liter (big bottle) vodka (use the cheap stuff!)
1 ¾ liter (big bottle) rum (use the cheap stuff!)
1 gallon orange juice
4lb bag of sugar
1 small bottle grenadine
sliced orange, lemon and lime rounds, apples, blueberries, strawberries, what-ever floats your boat!
large bottle maraschino cherries, juice and all
Ice

Fill large container with ice.
(I've used trash-cans, large plastic tubs, big coolers, even a bathtub! Use your imagination!)
Dump all ingredients over ice.
Stir.
(I use a hoe, shovel, or boat oar.)
Let age at least 10-20 minutes.

Enjoy!
... responsibly, of course!

Cheers!

  1. Sounds delish. I make a similar big batch of voodoo juice with rum and vodka, ginger ale pineapple juice and lemonade. Next time I do the voodoo I will add all the fruit!

  2. What brands of booze did you use? White or gold rum? Have you ever used flavored booze in this?

  4. My daddy made something similar to this when I was a kid,he called it Jungle Juice. He didn't add alcohol either, he packed all that fruit and stuff into fermenting crocks and stashed it in the garage for a month. When it was ready there was a block party...lol

  5. Is the 4lb. of sugar to much or is that needed for the taste? :) It sounds good, that just sounds like a lot. If you have made this please let me know :)

  6. agreed, the sugar seems like way too much...?

  7. 4 lbs of sugar works out to approximately 8 cups of sugar. There are 48 teaspoons in a cup. That makes it 384 teaspoons total. If this serves 200+ people, that is about 1.9 teaspoons per glass. Doesn't seem that excessive for that much alcohol. It's supposed to be sweet and fruity.

  9. 200 people?? Really? Its only 2 bottles of booze. Sounds great though but that number sounds way high.

  11. This won't serve 200 people. I just made it and did not put sugar in it. I think you might go into a diabetic coma with a bag of sugar in it. I did exactly as directed minus sugar and have added sprite for bubbles and cut the liquor just a touch. (so, that does have more sweetness!) 4lbs of sugar looks like my husband's tea. gack :D This is pretty darn good without either the sprite or the sugar. In the end, I have just under 2 gallons of drink. You are going to be filling up communion cups if you want it to serve 200. My neighborhood parties are about perfect for the 2 gallons :D

  13. Now, I know why you never made time for me. When you played the love card. Me leaving you was the best thing. You stabbed me in the back. That’s not a team. Darling I broke up with you because, your a liar and a cheat. You don’t deserve me. I got us back over $100k in 2.5 months. I’ve known you for 15 years. Your a sneaky Link. I wouldn’t trust you with my goldfish. Your super manipulative. Im glad I know people. I’m grateful you and the Prince learned what chain reactions can cause. I don’t have time for that b/s. I’m a business man. I’m paying your fees/storage. Or pay for it. We need to wrap this up. $1.3 mill I’ll be fine. Chop chop
