FLASHBACK, Tuna-Noodle Casserole

Let's travel back in time...

Who didn't experience the warm goodness of homemade tuna noodle casserole when they were a child?
Very few of you, I bet!

It's not gourmet.
It's not fancy.
It IS good old-fashioned comfort on a plate!

Here we go!

Flashback Tuna-Noodle Casserole

SERVES 4 -6

  • 1 (12 ounce) bag egg noodles, cooked al-dente
  • 1 to 2 cans condensed cream of mushroom or cream of celery soup, not diluted (if you like it creamier, add 2 cans)
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 (7 ounce) cans tuna, packed in water, do NOT drain!
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese, shredded (optional)
  • 1 cup green peas (frozen work great!)
  • 1 generous pinch black pepper.
  • 1 cup crushed potato chips
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients EXCEPT crushed potato chips, gently mix to combine and coat well.
  3. Pour into a buttered baking dish.
  4. Sprinkle crushed potato chips evenly on top.
  5. Bake, uncovered for 30 min until bubbly.
  6. Enjoy!

  1. Did you add the cream of celery substitute just for me, since you knew your sister would complain about how she doesn't like ANYTHING with mushrooms? Or how our mother loves her SO much that she strains cream of mushroom soup so there are no mushroomy bits?

Well, too bad. Because I shared that information anyways. :o)

Sounds yummy! This is actually something I don't remember having as a kid, but I'm sure you'll tell me I'm crazy...

  2. I like the addition of cheese and crushed potato chips. We never did that, but we did add peas. I'll have to try this version next time we make it.

  9. Very tasty...I used the cream of portobello mushroom soup from Trader Joes and used fried onions instead of potato chips on top. Also added some frozen corn along with the peas. Super easy and sooo good!
