Foodbuzz 24, 24, 24: A Broad Case Study in Wienerology.

I am so excited to take part in this Month's Foodbuzz 24, 24, 24 event!
That's 24 meals
in 24 hours,
with 24 blog posts about them!
How cool is that?!?

My meal is a broad case study in wienerology.
What's wiernerology?
Well... I first thought about it in this post
while watching my family prepare simple hot dogs.As I watched each of them carefully assemble their hot dog fix'ns, I realized just how unique each one was.
They each had to dress their dog in a certain way for it to be just right.
It made me remember my college psychology and sociology classes.

Thinking about those classes, of course, made me ask the question...
Why? What does each person's hot dog attire say about them?

For this special 24, 24, 24 meal I had to do it up right!
I started by ordering real New York Hot Dogs!
Man! They were as good as I remembered!

Then I set out to provide anything and everything I could think of for toppings.
I wanted my guests to be able to assemble their "Dream Dog" and for it to be perfect in every way.
Then we would try to analyze them and see if their dog style matched their personality.

No two dogs were the same!

There were sloppy dogs.

Hot dog Analysis #1.
(pictured above)

  • foot-long dog
  • chili
  • mayo
  • jalapeno and banana peppers
  • mustard
  • dill relish
  • cheese
  • jalapeno pepper juice
He is my 16-year-old daredevil.
If it's high, he will jump it.
If it's fast, he'll beat it.
If it's too hot... he'll eat TWO of them!

Hot dog Analysis #2.
  • foot-long dog
  • onions in a single file line down the right-hand side of the bun
  • a perfectly straight line of ketchup running the length of the dog
  • a thin veneer of dill relish down the left-hand side of the bun
  • a uniform sprinkling of shredded cheese.
This dog was made by C.
He's a general contractor.
He measures twice and cuts once.
He is neat, he is precise.
His dog shows it!

Simple Southern Dogs
Hot dog Analysis #3 & #4
(pictured above)
  • Dog
  • Chili
  • Cheese
These hot dogs were made by two 9 year old girls.
Miss A made hers in the traditional Texas way with chili and cheese.
So of course Miss B had to make hers the exact same way.
Thats what BFFs do, ya know!

Piled a Mile High Dogs

Hot dog Analysis #5
(pictured above)
  • foot-long dog
  • mayo
  • chili
  • cheese
  • yellow mustard
  • ketchup
  • onions
  • sauerkraut
  • sweet relish
  • jalapeno peppers
  • spicy mustard
  • NY style onions 'n sauce
This dog SHOULD be eaten with a fork and knife.
But of course, it was not and he has the stained shirt to prove it!

This 16-year-old child is simply a delightful mess!
If it can be knocked over, he will bump it.
If it can be spilled, he will spill it.
He is fun, he is lively, you never know what he'll do or say next, but you can bet it'll be shocking in some way!

split personality dogs!

Hot dog Analysis #6
(pictured above)

These dogs were made by my Spoiled-Rotten City-Slicker Little Sister.
They were both different.
I would need 12 more years in college to even begin to analyze her!

She is stubborn.
She is strong-willed.
She said no "one dog" could define her.
Geezzzz!

Tart and Tangy dogs

Hot dog Analysis #7
(pictured above)
  • chili
  • cheese
  • onions
  • yellow mustard
  • banana peppers
  • dill pickles
This hot dog creator likes a little of both worlds...
You know where you stand with V.
She pulls no punches and takes no crap.
She is fair.. but don't get on her bad side! Or you'll regret it!

She was born up north, but loves Texas.
Her dog combines both flavors beautifully well.

Simple dogs

Hot dog Analysis #8
(pictured above)
  • dog
  • mayo
  • ketchup
  • cheese (lots)
  • dill pickles
This is my wonderful Worker #4.
He just turned 10.

Worker #4 is in that place where he is still a little boy, but longs to run with the big boys.
He's easygoing & a friend to everyone.
He knows what he likes and sticks to it!
Adding pickles to his dog is about as far as he's willing to push it for now.

and Spicy Dogs
Hot dog Analysis #8
(pictured above)
  • chili
  • onions
  • jalapeno peppers
This 16 yr old is a rock & roll star... well, he will be one day anyway!
He tries so hard to appear dark, scary and menacing.
But he is just about one of the sweetest piles of goo inside.

Don't tell anyone I said that! It might ruin his rep!

I really think I may be on to something here!

There are definitely similarities between peoples' personalities and their hot dog fixing!!

Move over Sigmund Freud!
Wiernerology is coming!

What DO you put on YOUR perfect dog??
And what do you think it says about you?

  1. Hello, fellow "24"er!

What a fun, cute meal! I prefer the simple, chili and cheese dog. What does that say about me?

Thanks for sharing. We took our guests to Hawaii with a luau. Hope you can come over and check it out!

  2. This was great! There always is that great divide in the family of what goes on the dog. I'm glad you figured it out for me. I like ketchup and sweet relish. That's it! What do you think that means?

  3. I also had fun doing my 24 event - check it out on my blog if you have time. As for me and hot dogs - I love them, but totally unadulterated as in nothing on them except a little bun (not too much bread). Weird, I know...

  4. I've just been on a hot dog binge while working on an article. I agree that making a good hot dog great, is all about the toppings

  5. Fun post!
There's a place in my neck of the woods that it THE hot dog place. They offer up traditional style dogs (cheese, bacon bits, mustard, green pickle relish), and some more unusual choices (wasabi mayo, pickled ginger). My favorite is called the Captain dog, which sports peanut butter, grape jelly and Cap'n Crunch(don't knock it til you've tried it)... I wonder what that says about me??
